iPhone 12 users rejoice over the iOS 17.4 update.

Qi2 charging ability on iPhone 12 has been unexpectedly upgraded after updating to iOS version 17.4. According to reports, after upgrading to iOS 17.4, iPhone 12 can charge Qi2 at a maximum speed of 15W. Apple hasn't officially confirmed this, but 9to5Mac verified it during testing. Previously, for non-compatible devices, Qi2 chargers would only support 7.5W charging.

In tests, with the Apple MagSafe Charger, the iPhone 12 Pro Max was able to charge up to 30% in 38 minutes and to 50% in 70 minutes. By using the Anker Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charger, this smartphone charges to 30% in 33 minutes and to 50% in 64 minutes.

15W Qi2 charging capability was first announced for the iPhone 15, then expanded to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 via the iOS 17.2 update last December. And now, they've come to the iPhone 12.

Qi2 charging is an open standard, replicating the functionality of MagSafe. This was done with Apple's approval and participation through the Wireless Power Consortium behind the original Qi standard.

MagSafe offers two benefits over other wireless chargers: a magnetic connection to the phone, precise positioning of the phone against the charging coil, and 15W charging capability. Qi2 offers similar benefits to other chargers but often at a slightly lower price because Apple certification is not required.
