HTC still hasn't given up on the smartphone market even though the company's business has shrunk significantly.
Although the majority of HTC's current revenue comes from its virtual reality (VR) device business, HTC continues to launch new phones with new names every year. This makes the appearance of each new phone from HTC quite a surprise.
HTC 2QDA100 is the successor of HTC U23?
That surprise continued after a new mid-range phone branded HTC was discovered on Geekbench - a tool that compiles benchmarks for many types of devices. The phone listed is called HTC 2QDA100.
Looking at the data registered by the benchmark application shows that this phone will be equipped with 12 GB RAM. The chip that powers this phone hasn't been released yet, but it's an 8-core chip and is listed with the codename "crow". That is the codename used for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, so it's not surprising that this is the chip that will power HTC's next mid-range smartphone.
Besides appearing on Geekbench, the HTC 2QDA100 has also achieved the necessary Bluetooth SIG certification. Sadly, this doesn't reveal any additional information about the phone other than that it has Bluetooth 5.3 support.
Geekbench listing started on April 25, while Bluetooth SIG certification was received the next day. Although in both appearances only the phone's codename is shown, this could actually be the successor to the HTC U23 that the once famous smartphone manufacturer launched nearly a year ago.
If HTC maintains tradition, its next mid-range phone will be introduced this summer, possibly in June or July.
