Samsung launched a super powerful weapon for smartphones to "crush" Apple.

Samsung said it has developed LPDDR5X DRAM that provides the industry's fastest speeds of up to 10.7Gbps.

According to the Korean manufacturer, the industry-leading speed and low power consumption of the new LPDDR5X DRAM make it optimal for AI applications. This memory provides the lower power consumption and high-performance requirements needed for on-device AI.

LPDDR5X DRAM has impressive power.

Samsung said the company's latest product is the smallest of the 12 nanometer (nm) DRAMs currently available, targeting not only smartphones but also AI PCs, AI accelerators, servers, cars and other applications.

The 12nm LPDDR5X DRAM has a 25% increase in performance and 30% more capacity than its predecessor, which had a maximum speed of 8.5 Gbps. It also supports 32GB storage on a single plan.

Samsung continues to strengthen the low-power aspect of DRAM by adopting variable power usage and expanding low-bandwidth operating regions. The company added that this has improved energy efficiency by 25%, helping to reduce the total cost of ownership of smartphones and servers.

According to Samsung, they are currently verifying their new chip with application processors (APs) and mobile companies before planning mass production in the second half of this year.

Smartphone models equipped with new chips will be even more optimized for Galaxy AI.

LPDDR, or “low power double data rate,” was initially aimed at mobile devices but is now expanding to servers and data centers because of the low power consumption benefits of the AI boom.

Samsung has heavily promoted the AI features on its Galaxy S24 series smartphones launched earlier this year, with some of these features being implemented on the device or processed directly on the device and others using the cloud. cloud. With its new LPDDR DRAM, the company hopes that future smartphone models with this memory will be "enhanced" to beat competitors, of course including Apple's iPhone line.
