Should the microwave be opened and closed after use?

Many people know that some foods and utensils cannot be put in the microwave, but after using the microwave, should you open or close the door immediately?

This question can lead to different answers, many people even say they turn off the microwave after use as a habit. However, there are things that need to be understood before performing actions that seem simple but are not.

Opening the microwave immediately after use is something that many people do not pay attention to.

Japanese electrical equipment company Toshiba shared a common problem users have when using microwave ovens: closing the door immediately after use is incorrect. Toshiba points out that after using a microwave to cook food, dirt or moisture left over from heating the food will cause the microwave to become damp. Therefore, if the user closes the microwave door immediately after cooking, there is a risk of rust appearing inside the machine, such as on the left and right sides, back or top of the oven, etc.

Therefore, to avoid rust in the microwave, it is best for users to leave the oven door open to help steam escape.

Also, according to a user, to prevent the microwave from rusting, users should use a dry towel after use, then leave the door open for about 1 hour. This method can reduce the humidity in the microwave.

Rust can be dangerous during microwave use.

As for the goal of removing rust in a microwave, this comes down to limiting the consequences it causes. On Toshiba's official website, it is stated that if there is dirt, moisture inside the microwave or the door closes when wet, the painted surface will rust and may cause sparks during use, this may lead to fire or explosion. Therefore, if there is rust inside the microwave and sparks appear, stop it immediately.

Some other things that can also cause sparks to appear when using a microwave that users need to pay attention to when using include gold foil, silver foil, metal tableware; metal bowls, metal utensils; aluminum foil, aluminum cans, aluminum tape, aluminum bags or beer/soft drink cans. It is best for users to avoid putting these things in the microwave to protect not only the oven but also the safety of themselves and their family.
