A few days ago, Apple was rumored to be making iPhone batteries easier to replace to comply with EU regulations. Now, Leaster Ming-chi Kuo says that Apple will use a stainless-steel battery case for easy battery removal. The added benefit of this is a reported 5-10% increase in battery cell density, while still meeting safety requirements. This will result in better battery life.
Kuo pointed to Sunway as a supplier of stainless-steel battery cases and a major beneficiary of Apple's new business. Also, according to Mr. Kuo, it is likely that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the first iPhone to benefit from the new battery case.
It is known that the EU requires users to be able to replace smartphone batteries themselves by 2025, meaning that all phones will eventually adopt an easier method of replacing new batteries.
Besides, a report says that Apple and Google are expected to use Samsung's latest M14 OLED panel, which is brighter and more durable than the current best panel on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. A report from Korean news site ETNews details Samsung Display's plans to supply M14 OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, as well as the Pixel 9 series expected to launch in the second half of this year.
The M14 designation indicates the use of higher performance materials in the OLED panel, which could be up to 14 in total. The M14 OLED panel is set to be brighter and have a longer lifespan than current OLED products. at Samsung Display.
Citing internal sources, GSMArena said iPhone 16 Pro (6.3 inches) and 16 Pro Max (6.9 inches) will have new screens, while regular models (iPhone 16 6.1 inches and iPhone 16 Plus 6.7 inches) will have the same M12 panel that the iPhone 15 generation currently uses.
Sources add that the entire Pixel 9 series will use the newer M14 panel. These include the Pixel 9, small Pixel 9 Pro, and large Pixel 9 Pro XL.
