Lucy Markovic, an international model and former Next Top Model contestant, died in Australia after a battle with a brain arteriovenous malformation.
Lucy Markovic's boyfriend announced the sad news on Instagram Story on April 11: "To her friends and loved ones, I am so sorry to announce that Lucy has passed away. She passed away peacefully. Me, her mother and my mother were with her in her final moments."
Lucy Markovic suffered from a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and underwent emergency surgery before falling into a coma earlier this week, according to Dailymail. Before Lucy passed away, her boyfriend revealed that she was fighting for her life and asked fans to pray for her.
AVMs are abnormal blockages in blood vessels that cause irregular connections between arteries and veins - often developing in the spinal cord and brain. Lucy once shared that her AVM was the size of a golf ball. Last month, the 27-year-old model gave an update on her condition, revealing that she would undergo surgery after suffering a seizure. She was scheduled to have the surgery on April 26 but moved it to April 2.
Lucy Markovic is a famous Australian model, currently signed to Elite NYC. She participated in Australia's Next Top Model in 2015 when she was just 17 years old and beat many competitors to reach the final, winning second place. After the competition, Lucy walked the catwalk for many big brands such as Versace, Givenchy and Australian brands such as Dion Lee, Ksubi and Sass and Bide.
Upon hearing of Lucy's death, designer Donatella Versace paid tribute to the model on Instagram, sharing images of her walking for the brand. "I am so sad to hear about Lucy Markovic. Rest in peace, beautiful girl," the Italian designer wrote.
Elite NYC modeling agency also posted the sad news and paid tribute: "Lucy was a bright light and had an incredible sense of humor. Her smile could light up a room and bring people together. She loved to dance and truly shined in those moments. Modeling was one of Lucy's dreams and we were honored to have her on this journey. She brought elegance, strength and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself - her warmth, her laughter and her light."
