China - Frontier Pro is both the Japanese automaker's first hybrid vehicle and its first hybrid pickup, sold in China before going to other markets.
The Frontier Pro features a Rugged Tech look inspired by the 1980s Nissan D21 Hardbody with three air vents on the hood, mirrored by the front light strip. An illuminated Nissan logo and 18-inch wheels with 265/65 tyres are standard, along with a five-link rear suspension and an intelligent four-wheel drive system.
The PHEV powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor. The system produces more than 402 hp and 800 N · m of torque, with a pure electric range of up to 135km according to NEDC. The vehicle has an electromechanical rear differential lock and four driving modes: hybrid, pure electric, Performance, and Snow.
The interior looks basic but still has amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, 10-inch LCD instrument cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen central display, and heated/ventilated/massaged front seats. The tailgate can be retracted electrically, and the vehicle can be used as a power source.
Nissan's first hybrid truck is 5,520 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,950 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,300 mm. It weighs 2,500-2,540 kg, depending on the version.
Production of the Nissan Frontier Pro is expected to begin in China in late 2025. The Japanese company has not yet provided specific information about other markets.
In addition to the Frontier Pro, Nissan also introduced the N7 electric vehicle at the Shanghai show, marking two of nine new Nissan-branded electric vehicles scheduled to launch in China by the summer of 2027.
