The 37-year-old actor was arrested after causing a disturbance at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort in California. At the time, Haley smelled of alcohol, was disheveled, and was arguing with other skiers. When police officers handcuffed him, Haley refused to reveal his name and said, "I'm American." Police later discovered a substance resembling cocaine hidden in the actor's helmet. During the argument with the police, Haley cursed and used abusive language. He was taken to the police station and detained for a while before being released.

On Thursday, Haley Joel Osment posted a statement apologizing for "saying terrible things" while intoxicated. "I am truly appalled by my actions. If I had known that I would have used such shameful language in a time of loss, I would have spoken up sooner. The past few months of loss and displacement have left me in a very bad emotional state," Haley said, referring to losing her home in the January bushfires. The actor apologized to everyone and promised to make amends.
