Director and screenwriter Diego Borella, 47, suddenly passed away while filming 'Emily in Paris' in Venice on the evening of August 21.
According to La Repubblica, Diego suddenly collapsed in front of the crew members while preparing for the final scene of season 5. Although medical staff quickly arrived at the Danieli Hotel, the filming location, at around 7 pm on Thursday, all efforts to save Diego were unsuccessful.
According to Italian media sources, the initial cause of death was myocardial infarction. Diego was confirmed to have passed away at 7:30pm.
Immediately after the tragic incident, the Emily in Paris crew temporarily suspended all filming activities.
Born in 1978 in Venice, Diego is a famous director and screenwriter who studied and worked in many big cities such as Rome, London, and New York. According to his personal social media posts, he is also the author of many fairy tales, haiku poems, and stage plays.
Mattia Berto, a long-time close friend of Diego, emotionally shared: "I have many beautiful memories of Diego. He was a gentleman with exquisite taste. The last time we met was at a dinner in Paris with our best friend - I called her on Thursday and she was really devastated. Diego was funny, smart, and very talented. His life ended too soon - it's hard to put into words, there is only infinite sadness left."
Filming of season 5 of Emily in Paris in Venice began on August 15 and is expected to be completed next Monday. The new season is scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 18 this year.
