The Foxconn factory in China is currently recruiting massively, offering many new salary and bonus policies to attract workers to assemble iPhone 16.
According to recruitment content posted by Foxconn on its platforms this week, the factory in Zhengzhou is paying an hourly wage of 25 yuan and a bonus of 7,500 yuan to workers who took leave but returned to work. This package is higher than the 6,000 yuan bonus offered by the company a month ago.
"Foxconn Zhengzhou factory's peak season is coming: high-paying jobs for temporary workers and returning employees. Promotion opportunities are also very high," quoted the post on social network WeChat and the platform Zhaopin online recruitment.
For seasonal workers, Foxconn will also increase hourly wages to 21-22 yuan. Those who officially join this stage will receive a monthly salary of 6,000 yuan per month for the first three months and will increase if they stay longer.
This number is higher than a year ago. Last May, when recruiting, Foxconn said new workers would receive a 3,000-yuan bonus if they committed to working at least 90 days and were paid 21 yuan per hour. The reward for those who are loyal (working for more than three months) increased from 2,000 yuan to 2,500 yuan.
According to SCMP, increasing wages and bonuses to attract workers is something Foxconn often does before each new batch of iPhones is about to launch. Recruitment is done to get ready for mass production of new iPhones, usually about 2-3 months before Apple launches the product and sells it a few weeks later.
Foxconn is still Apple's largest iPhone assembly partner, and the factory in Zhengzhou is considered the "iPhone city" due to the large number of workers, which can reach hundreds of thousands at peak times. However, recently, Apple began diversifying production outside of China, causing the factory to reduce output and have fewer workers. CNBC cited sources from local customs that the factory in Zhengzhou city achieved a total iPhone output of 6.65 million units in the first quarter of 2024, down nearly 60% over the same period last year.
This year, Apple plans to release the iPhone 16 series in September with the highlight being the Apple Intelligence feature. Particularly, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have larger screens, are equipped with an A18 Pro chip, upgraded cameras, support Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Advance connections, and use a cooling system with graphene material.
