Despite his wealth, actor Ben Affleck does not spoil his children and let them work part-time to earn money when they are teenagers.
The Batman star told the Today with Jenna & Friends program on April 22: "My two older daughters have jobs. In fact, one of them just got a part-time job at a store. Meanwhile, my oldest is in college and trying to get an internship this summer."
Ben Affleck mentioned his two daughters Violet, 19, and Seraphina, 16, with his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Garner. Violet is currently a student at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, studying away from home. The younger daughter Seraphina is a high school student and still lives with her family.
The 52-year-old actor, who is worth around $150 million, also teaches his youngest son Samuel, 13, how to live frugally and value money. "He has a shoe closet, but no expensive shoes," Ben revealed. "I told him: 'If you want to buy expensive shoes, you can work 1,000 hours to get paid. And after working that many hours, you may not want to spend that money on a pair of shoes anymore.'"
Ben mentioned the story of Samuel wanting to buy a pair of Dior Air Force shoes worth $6,000 at a sports fair but he flatly refused. "He wanted those shoes, but I said, 'They cost $6,000. What are you going to do with that money, mow lawns?' Samuel said, 'We have money, Dad!' But I said, 'Dad, you have money, I don't.' You love your kids, you want to give them everything and do everything for them, but I think it's a disservice to not teach them that if you want something, you have to work for it," Ben said.
Ben Affleck grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
