Bentley Unveils The Black Rose Batur, Featuring 210 Grams of 18-Karat Rose Gold
Bentley has unveiled a bespoke Batur, dubbed the “Bentley Batur The Black Rose”, inspired by the beauty of a golden rose. “The Black Rose” is one of 18 Baturs created by Mulliner’s Bespoke Studio. It is the result of an in-depth co-creation journey between the customer and Mulliner’s design team.
The exquisite Batur features a bespoke “Black Rose” metallic paint finish, commissioned by Mulliner for the customer, combined with a Beluga gloss upper body. Satin Rose Gold accents adorn the front grille, “endless bonnet line”, mirror caps, lower body kit, air intakes, 22-inch three-tone wheels, carbon ceramic brakes with black brake calipers.
The interior is upholstered in dark leather, with the dashboard and fabrics broken only by the shimmer of rose gold. In an automotive first, Bentley’s gold Additive Manufacturing (AM) 3D printing technique adds up to 210 grams of 18-karat rose gold to the interior of the handcrafted coupe at key driver touch points, including the drive mode switch, the Organ Stop button – Bentley’s signature on the dashboard, as well as a rose gold accent on the steering wheel, showcasing the level of bespoke detail.
Surrounding the rose gold elements is a dark-toned cockpit with premium materials such as Beluga leather, charcoal grey tweed, and veneers painted in Black Rose metallic paint. Bentley Motors has partnered with renowned jewellers Cooksongold for the first time to combine new manufacturing technologies with cutting-edge materials and traditional finishing techniques.
The use of sustainably sourced raw materials from 100% recycled jewellery reflects the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainable luxury and its goal of being completely carbon neutral by 2035. All pieces produced for Batur are certified at the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter as a way of authenticating the materials. Additionally, any pieces produced in 2022 will also receive the Jubilee badge, commemorating the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Bentley has not mentioned power, so it is certain that Batur is equipped with a 6.0L twin-turbocharged W12 engine, producing more than 730 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. Combined with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 4-wheel drive system.
Bentley has previously committed to investing a total of £3 million to double AM capacity at its Crewe factory by 2022, converting 3D CAD models into physical parts. Certified 18-karat rose gold is one of a range of innovative finishes that customers can choose to explore in Batur through Bentley’s bespoke division Mulliner.
From aerospace-inspired titanium to sustainable leather-like fabrics made from coffee roasting by-products, options like these add to the novelty of leather, wood and other material options. Reaffirming that the limit is the customer’s imagination. Since the 1920s, Mulliner has created bespoke bodies for some of the world’s most iconic Bentleys, including the iconic 1952 R-Type Continental.
