According to El Tiempo, Jorge Bolano suffered a heart attack and collapsed shortly afterwards. The 47-year-old former player was taken to a clinic for emergency treatment but did not survive.

Bolano's passing has left many football fans around the world in mourning. The Colombian Football Federation's website said: "We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jorge Bolana, former national player and professional coach, who passed away on April 6. Bolano's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and admired him. His legacy as a player and coach will live forever in the memory of Colombian sports."

Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon - who played with Bolano for Pamar - wrote on his personal page: "Jorge was an unforgettable friend and teammate. We played and won together during the golden years of Parma. On the pitch, he fought tirelessly and off the pitch, I will always remember his kindness, humanity, an example for everyone. We will always miss him. Rest in peace, my friend."

Bolano was born on April 28, 1977 in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia. He started his professional football career very early and quickly made a name for himself thanks to his powerful playing style, technique and impressive ball control. Bolano really rose to prominence when he joined Parma, a famous Italian club in the late 1990s. He played an important role in leading Parma to the UEFA (now Europa League) championship in the 1998-1999 season.

After Parma, Bolano played for many other clubs, but his peak period was still associated with the Italian team and matches with the Colombian national team. Bolano played 36 times for Colombia between 1995 and 2003, scoring one goal.
