Common hybrid technology is often understood as gasoline-powered, but the one on the Sealion 6 gives that role to an electric motor.
Sealion 6 (named Song Plus in the Chinese market) is the 6th product introduced by BYD to the Vietnamese market. This is also the company's first hybrid model after a series of pure electric cars since entering the Vietnamese market. Previously, the car had a gasoline version but was eliminated in 2022 after BYD stopped producing pure gasoline cars, focusing on plug-in hybrids and electric cars. Sealion 6 in the domestic market is the best-selling BYD model.
The design of Sealion 6 is inspired by the ocean, modern, youthful, combining soft and cut lines. The front bumper has radiator bars that create a difference compared to previous electric car models, the bars extend to the two air vents to create a feeling similar to the mustache of a sea lion. LED headlights with separate LED daytime running lights.
Sealion 6 is 4,775 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,670 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The car has a longer length, width and wheelbase than competitors in the segment such as Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V, thus providing more spacious interior space.
The body has two embossed accents, double-layered window glass, and is also tinted to ensure privacy.
The car has several ways to unlock: using a regular key, a button on the door, an NFC card, or an app on the phone. Both versions are equipped with electric mirrors and heated mirrors, while the Premium version has integrated blind spot warning.
The car uses 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, MacPherson front suspension, and multi-link rear suspension.
In contrast to the elegant appearance of the front of the car, the rear design uses many embossed lines, two fake air vents create harmony with the front air vents. However, the overall rear of the car is somewhat more complex than the front of the car.
The interior has a soft design, eliminating many physical buttons to optimize space. The highlight of the Premium version is the 15.6-inch rotating screen in the middle of the dashboard, displaying entertainment information, adjusting the air conditioning system and vehicle status. Below the air conditioning vent is a storage compartment. The 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel has integrated hands-free buttons. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning system has the function of filtering PM2.5 fine dust.
Only the Premium version equipped with ADAS has safety features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, front/rear collision warning, traffic sign recognition, speed limit control, rear cross traffic warning, automatic brake assist when reversing.
12.3-inch multi-information screen behind the steering wheel, simple interface, easy to observe. The car has 4 driving modes including Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow.
The center console has a crystal gear lever like BMW and Volvo models. Around it are integrated quick-action force-sensitive buttons and physical toggles. The car is equipped with two 15W wireless charging ports.
The front seats are covered in two-tone brown and black leather with orange accents. The driver's seat is 8-way power adjustable, and the passenger seat is 4-way power adjustable. The Premium version's seats have an additional cooling function.
The rear seats are spacious, with legroom, headroom, and reclining for comfort on long trips. Amenities include air-conditioning vents, 2 USB-A and Type-C ports. The premium version has an additional 10-speaker Infinity sound system, while the standard version only has 9 regular speakers.
The Sealion 6 hybrid system combines EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid modes. If the battery is full, the EV can run 100 km at a maximum speed of 130 km/h. After this number, the car automatically switches to hybrid.
A series hybrid is suitable for urban use when the gasoline engine drives the generator motor to generate electricity to supply the motor to turn the wheels.
In parallel hybrid, both the gasoline engine and the motor drive together. The maximum distance of Sealion 6 is more than 1,200 km according to the manufacturer's announcement. According to internal testing by BYD Vietnam, it is more than 1,700 km.
