The Oppo Find N5 is 8.93mm thin when folded, which is lower than the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and only slightly thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max or Galaxy S25 Ultra.
In the video revealing the Find N5 launch next week, Oppo asserted that this model is "as thin and light as a traditional smartphone". However, the company only revealed the thinness when folded to be 8.93mm, while the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is 9.2mm, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is 8.3mm, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 8.2mm.
This is also the first foldable smartphone with a thickness of less than 9 mm. The previous thinnest foldable smartphone title belonged to the Honor Magic V3 with 4.35 mm when opened and 9.2 mm when folded.
The two factors that helped Oppo reduce the thickness of the Find N5 are the design material to increase durability and new battery technology. The device uses a 7-series aluminum alloy frame and is the first foldable smartphone to use 3D printed titanium alloy to ensure good strength. The changes make the frame 16% harder than the previous generation while the hinge is 50% more wear-resistant and 36% more durable than the Find N3.
The new battery technology helps Oppo make the phone thinner while the battery capacity even reaches 5,600 mAh, larger than the 4,805 mAh of the previous generation. This is also the foldable phone with the highest capacity battery, surpassing the 5,150 mAh of the Honor V3.
In the video showing off its durability, the Chinese company also confirmed that the Find N5 is water-resistant to IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9 standards. The device can be used in water, can withstand strong water splashes or high-pressure water jets. However, the device is still not dust-proof like Samsung phones.
The product's specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, similar to the Galaxy S25 series, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The Find N5 will be launched globally on February 20.
