The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro will feature an impressive new camera design, promising major upgrades in performance and photography features.
According to reliable sources in the tech industry, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro duo will feature a large camera bar that stretches from edge to edge. Leaked renders have provided a clear look at what the phones will look like, while a new image that has surfaced online has revealed the size of the camera bar.
The iPhone 17 Pro is said to feature a horizontal camera bar design similar to the Pixel series, but the camera arrangement will still be triangular. Blogger @SonnyDickson has shared images of a transparent iPhone 17 Pro case, showing a larger cutout than the iPhone 16 Pro case.
It’s unclear what Apple is aiming for with this new design, as the camera arrangement hasn’t changed significantly. Many believe Apple may be taking a page from Google. A Twitter user named @Mia_Kacurage has come up with a reason for the elongated camera bar, according to 9to5Mac.
The iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to ditch the 12MP telephoto camera in favor of a new 48MP camera, with a higher resolution but still retaining the 10x optical zoom. However, increasing the megapixel count without changing the sensor size will result in smaller pixels, affecting light capture. To fix this, Apple will likely increase the sensor size and rotate the telephoto lens, which would require the LiDAR module to be moved to the far end of the camera cluster, along with the LED flash and microphone.
Aside from the rectangular camera bar, not many other changes are expected. The camera bar will reportedly be the same color as the rest of the phone, refuting rumors of a two-tone design. The iPhone 17 Pro is also unlikely to feature a smaller Dynamic Island.
The new lineup is expected to be powered by TSMC's third-generation 3nm chip, the N3P, while some of the top-end models could use a 2nm chip. Another highlight is the revamped iOS 19, which will be introduced in June at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25).
