How thin is the iPhone 17 Air when placed next to the iPhone 16e?

The alleged model of the iPhone 17 Air is quite thin when placed next to the newly launched low-cost phone model 16e.

Majin Bu, an X account that has shared a lot of accurate information about Apple's unreleased device, posted on his personal page a dummy model with the content: "Compare iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 16e".

When placed side by side, the black 17 Air is two-thirds as thin as the 16e, while the buttons are of the same size. The iPhone 16e is 7.8 mm thick, not Apple's thinnest phone model. However, according to technology site PhoneArena, the image shows the "incredible" thinness of the Air version, expected to be around 5.5 mm.

In addition to its thinness, the iPhone 17 Air uses a single lens with a horizontally elongated camera cluster similar to the Google Pixel 9. This area is thicker than the rest, curved like a pill.

Previously, some sources said that due to its thinness, the Air version is only equipped with a low-capacity battery and no external speaker. Famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities said that the device has a measurement of 5.5 mm at its thinnest point, while "rumor expert" Ice Universe cited his own source saying that the rear camera cluster of the 17 Air will protrude 4 mm, meaning the thickness of the device in this part is 9.5 mm.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch with three other iPhone 17 versions in September. The product has the same price as the Plus version, starting at $800, in the mid-range segment. The device integrates a custom modem designed by Apple but does not support the fastest mmWave 5G band. The product is aimed at users who prioritize aesthetics, helping Apple meet the needs of a specific niche market, after the failure of the Mini and Plus lines.
