The new two-door sports car features a center console inspired by the Honda Civic and Acura Integra.
Japanese automaker Honda revealed new images of the Prelude Coupe's interior design at a special event in its home country. The upcoming hybrid coupe is expected to go on sale in markets such as Japan, the US, and Europe later this year. The Prelude Coupe is considered a replacement for the two-door sports version of the Civic, according to Carscoops.
As shown in the images, the interior design of the Prelude Coupe borrows some details from the same chassis models such as the Honda Civic and Acura Integra.
The dashboard of the new coupe includes a digital clock similar to the Civic Type R but more modern. The saddle is designed higher than the C-class sedan. The highlight is the push-button gear selector, replacing the traditional gear lever. The dedicated "S+Shift" button is located in the center, allowing simulation of both sound effects and torque maps when shifting gears.
The dashboard, entertainment touch screen and air conditioning control layout are familiar to Civic drivers, while the air conditioning vents are inspired by the Acura Integra. The door panels are larger with coupe-style armrests, ergonomic front seat headrests. Being a coupe, the rear seat space is more cramped. The hatchback-style rear door opens to a spacious storage compartment.
Another unique detail on the Prelude Coupe is that the driver's and passenger's seats are not the same. Honda shares that the driver's seat is specially designed to support lateral grip when driving at high speeds. While the passenger seat focuses on comfort with softer contours and cushions. The door sills are finished with soft materials and the doors are specially designed to avoid foot impact when entering.
The Prelude Coupe is developed based on the Civic chassis but shortens the wheelbase, increases rigidity and cuts weight. The steering and suspension systems of the two-door sports car are tuned to suit the GT-style sports car.
Honda also revealed that the Prelude Coupe is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, including a 2.0 gasoline engine combined with two electric motors.
