Tom Cruise was confused when asked about Father's Day at the New York premiere on May 18.
At the end of an interview about the new Mission: Impossible movie on the red carpet, an E! News reporter mentioned the upcoming Father's Day and asked Tom Cruise: "What would your ideal Father's Day be like?"
The 62-year-old star, a father of three, paused for a few seconds and said: "You know..." before looking away and looking into the distance. Tom then said, "Just having fun." He also quickly changed the subject without mentioning any of his children. "Making movies, big adventures, and having a great time!".
The video shared on the newspaper's YouTube channel attracted a lot of comments from viewers. Many people think that Tom Cruise is reluctant to share about fatherhood because of his estranged relationship with his biological daughter, Suri, over the years. One person wrote: "A simple question, but he can't answer. It's time for all he can talk about is his love for movies. What about being a father? There was a time when it was very important to him". Another person commented: "Making movies, that's probably not a father's job! I'm sure he wants to spend time with his daughter, but... I wish Tom's daughter wanted to spend time with him".
Meanwhile, there are also opinions that Tom Cruise may have been startled by the personal question because no one has asked him about it.
Tom Cruise has two adopted children with his ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman: daughter Isabella, now 32, and son Connor, 30. The actor has only a biological child, Suri Cruise, 19, from his third marriage to actress Katie Holmes. According to US media, Tom Cruise has not been seen with Suri for more than 10 years while he remains close to his two adopted children.
Suri lives in New York with her mother after her parents divorced in 2012. She graduated from LaGuardia High School in June 2024 and is currently a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. Last year, after turning 18, Suri Cruise dropped her father's last name and changed it to Suri Noelle (Noelle is Katie Holmes' middle name).
Dailymail reported that Tom Cruise was absent from his daughter's life, but he still provided full financial support for Suri until she turned 18. The actor is even said to have paid for his daughter's entire college tuition.
