Honda will sell 40 high-performance Civic Type R Ultimate Edition cars in Europe.

Honda celebrates the iconic Civic Type R with the ‘Ultimate Edition’, marking the end of the model’s European run. A total of 40 Civic Type R ‘Ultimate Edition’ models will be produced. The Civic Type R celebrates 28 years of hot hatch performance, with the special edition finished in Championship White with exclusive red graphics on the hood and sides to match the iconic logo.

The interior of the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition features a number of carbon-fibre-finished elements, including the dashboard, door linings, cup holders, footwells, and footwell lighting. Opening the front doors reveals an illuminated Type R logo, adding to the unique appeal.

As a special gift, the owner will receive a gift box containing badges numbered from 1 to 40, a carbon keyring, custom floor mats, and a car cover. All of this makes for a special edition for Type R fans before the car is discontinued in Europe in 2026.

Hannah Swift, Head of Strategy and Product, European, Honda Motor Europe, said: “As we say goodbye to a true icon of Honda in Europe, we thought it was fitting to launch this special edition to pay tribute to the Civic Type R, giving customers a unique opportunity to celebrate its legacy.

The Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition is still equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged I4 VTEC engine, producing a maximum capacity of 330 horsepower and a maximum torque of 420 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, allowing the high-performance hatchback to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 275 km/h. It is also the fastest front-wheel drive (FWD) car in the world. Suzuka Circuit (Japan), when completing the 5.8 km long racing circuit configuration in just 2 minutes 23 seconds.

Since then, the Civic Type R has gone through five generations and numerous special editions, building a loyal following around the world with a tradition of high-performance, racing-inspired performance.

For nearly three decades, Civic Type Rs have set the benchmark for front-wheel drive cars at many circuits around the world, most notably the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany on numerous occasions. It has also achieved similar results at other circuits such as Magny-Cours (France), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Hungaroring (Hungary), Estoril (Portugal), Suzuka (Japan), Silverstone (UK), and Mount Panorama Bathurst (Australia).

Success on the track also extended to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), along with other regional series, where the Civic Type R was a popular choice, winning both the team and driver titles. In each of these series, the cars entered were based on production front-wheel drive models, making the Type R ideal for its performance credentials.

Limited to 40 units, the Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition is priced from £57,905 in the UK.
