Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 reveal a series of breakthrough upgrades: Thinner design, better camera, more powerful performance than ever.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 has a slimmer design, a 200-megapixel camera, while the Z Flip7 increases the screen size and practical features.

At the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, Samsung announced foldable phones, including the Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and the first appearance of the Z Flip FE version.

Thinness and lightness

With the Galaxy Z Fold7, the device's thinness is significantly improved compared to the Z Fold6, from 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.1 mm to 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9 mm when folded, and from 153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6 mm to 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.2 mm when opened. This parameter makes the device one of the thinnest foldable smartphones in the world. However, the protruding camera cluster compared to competitors can cause some inconveniences, such as easy scratching, loss of seamlessness.

Samsung's new phone weighs 215 grams, lighter than the 229 grams of the Oppo Find N5 or the 219 grams of the Honor Magic V5. When actually holding it, this difference is insignificant and difficult to feel.

New generation hinge

Samsung brings the advanced Armor FlexHinge hinge architecture to the new Z Fold and Z Flip. The system has a "water drop" design and a multi-rail structure, helping to evenly distribute pressure to protect the screen, making the device thinner, opening and closing without gaps, the screen has almost no creases, and is more durable.

According to TechRadar's experience, the Armor FlexHinge combines an aluminum frame to give a solid, sturdy feel, and folds and opens easily, but it takes more time to be able to conclude about durability and creases.

Screen

The new smartphone has a strong upgrade in terms of screen. In particular, the outer and inner screen sizes of the Z Fold7 have increased to 6.5 and 8 inches, respectively, while the previous generation was 6.2 and 7.6 inches. The glass surface has been upgraded to protect the outer screen using Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, like on the Galaxy S24 Edge, while the inner screen is Gorilla Glass Victus 2, 50% thicker than before.

The inner screen is equipped with an additional layer of titanium to improve durability and protection. However, this upgrade also has a trade-off when it no longer supports the S Pen stylus.

The Z Flip7 has a 4.1-inch Flex Window outer screen, occupying the entire front with two holes for the main camera, replacing the 3.4-inch folder-shaped screen on the previous generation.

The inner screen is raised to 6.9 inches, 0.2 inches larger than the Z Flip6, using a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, 2,600 nit brightness, Full HD+ resolution, and 120 Hz refresh rate. The increased size and thinner bezels help the Z Flip7 not be as long as before, thereby improving the user experience.

Camera

The camera design on the Z Fold7 is not much different from the Z Fold6, but the main sensor is upgraded to 200 megapixels, supporting OIS optical image stabilization similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The remaining two cameras include a 12-megapixel super wide-angle and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens supporting OIS with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. The two selfie cameras have the same 10-megapixel resolution, improved lenses for a wider shooting angle, and are no longer hidden.

Samsung does not have many camera parameter upgrades for the Z Flip7, but the edge has an additional ring light effect to remind the best selfie angle. The photo capture interface is also more intuitive; users can swipe to zoom, display the timer.

Generative AI

The new Galaxy Z trio has been strongly upgraded in terms of generative AI, when Samsung joined hands with Google to integrate Gemini deeply into the device. Users can use the inner and outer screens to access Gemini Live, use the camera to scan and receive direct responses, and share information from the screen... AI is capable of understanding many languages, including natural Vietnamese - a strong point compared to other AIs on the market. In addition, the AI noise removal feature helps to significantly improve sound quality when recording or filming videos.

By cooperating with Google, Galaxy Z users can use Google Veo 3 for free for six months.

The new Galaxy Z's camera also supports more artificial intelligence, such as ProVisual Engine for accurate color, better night shooting and noise reduction, and expanded photo editing features compared to the previous generation. AI can also automatically recognize and suggest beautiful shooting angles, remove unnecessary objects, or simply move the subject.

Other upgrades

In previous years, Samsung mainly used Snapdragon chips specifically for the Galaxy, and this year is no exception, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Galaxy. The standard version has a 12 GB RAM configuration, 256 or 512 GB internal memory, like the previous generation. However, for the first time, Samsung has added a more powerful version equipped with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB internal memory for its smartphone.

The battery capacity of the new smartphone also has some improvements. Although the device is significantly thinner and lighter, the Galaxy Z Fold7 battery still retains its original capacity of 4,400 mAh compared to the Galaxy Z Fold6. Meanwhile, Galaxy Z Flip7 increased to 4,300 mAh compared to 4,000 mAh of Z Flip6.
