Surprisingly, the Apple Watch was still running under the sea for 18 months.

The Apple Watch fell into the ocean 1 and a half years later and still worked when the battery was recharged and was returned to its original owner.

Apple's Find My device search feature uses the app of the same name to help find lost Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Macs, AirPods, AirTags, and some supported third-party accessories.

This feature led to the incredible recovery of a man named Jared Brick's Apple Watch after it fell into the ocean 18 months ago, according to Phone Arena.

Brick bought two Apple Watches, one for himself and one for his son for his 11th birthday, to help them stay in touch during their family vacation.

After arriving in the British Virgin Islands, Jared went on a scuba diving trip with an Apple Watch on his wrist.

The Apple Watch is useful for tracking the time and depth Brick reaches during his dives, some of which he dives as deep as 30 meters. This depth is still within the specified depth of 50 meters at which the Apple Watch is considered to be usable underwater.

On his last day in the Virgin Islands, Brick jumped off a rock and swam in a relatively shallow body of water called The Baths in Virgin Gorda.

Moments later, Brick realized his Apple Watch was no longer on his wrist and when he opened the Find My app on another Apple device, he was informed that his watch was missing.

A year and a half later, in December 2023, Brick received a call from a local resident living near Virgin Gorda informing him that his Apple Watch had been found on the beach.

The person who discovered Jared's missing Apple Watch charged the device and the missing message appeared on the screen revealing Brick's phone number.

The man who found the watch, named Jonathan, took a photo of the Apple Watch and sent it to Brick. The device is then mailed to its owner. Brick admitted at the time that he thought he would never see the watch again.

"Not only was the watch found on the same beach," Brick said, "but after the battery was recharged, a lost message appeared on the watch face with my phone number, the person who discovered it was call me and send pictures of the watch".

Up to now, Jared Brick has just made a video on YouTube telling the whole story about the Apple Watch still running after traveling on the ocean floor for 18 months, discovered drifting on the beach, fully charged. and returned to its original owner after a flight of nearly 6,000 km.

In his video, Brick not only thanked Jonathan for finding and returning his Apple Watch, but also thanked Apple for "creating amazing and useful technology."
