Tesla's Optimus robot was first brought to an AI event in China but was criticized compared to its competitors, standing in a glass cabinet instead of showing off its features.
At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, taking place July 4-6 in Shanghai, Tesla brought the latest generation Optimus model. This is also the only humanoid robot from abroad, while the remaining 24 models are all produced by Chinese companies.
Before the event, Tesla also advertised Optimus on media channels and social networks, emphasizing that humanity is "witnessing the further evolution of humanoid robots". However, while most of China's robots operate and demonstrate existing technology, Elon Musk's products are only displayed in glass cages, not moving or interacting with visitors.
This moves disappointed many people. On Chinese social networks, there are opinions that Optimus has not really achieved the progress that Tesla and Musk have advertised recently.
"I came to the event because I heard about Optimus, but everything was not as expected. Really disappointed because it was inferior to the other robots," wrote Weibo Chuqin account. "Tesla has not dared to show off the functions of Optimus or perhaps did not dare because it was afraid of being inferior to our robot," Jiupai account commented.
According to Citizen Tribune, the event gathered about 25 robots from 18 brands, most of them from China such as Fourier, Tlibot, Dataa Robotics, Robotera, Leju Robot, Shanghai Kepler Robot or Ti5 Robot. The products all work, although their features are limited.
Optimus is a humanoid robot first introduced by Tesla in 2021. However, at that time, instead of demonstrating the model, the company used a male actor wearing a jumpsuit and breakdancing to electronic music. In 2022, the company announced the first prototype, 173 cm tall, weighing 57 kg, equipped with a screen to display information. Recently, Musk and Tesla have also continuously posted videos about Optimus's abilities, such as picking eggs, practicing yoga, arranging batteries...
During a mid-June Tesla shareholder meeting at the Gigafactory in Texas, Musk said Optimus "could be the catalyst to increase Tesla's market capitalization to $25 trillion," but experts say this is worth it. unimaginable and difficult to come true.
