Zuckerberg shows off 6-window multitasking on VR glasses.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a video testing multitasking capability on Horizon OS, the platform for Quest smart glasses.

"Add more windows on Quest," Zuckerberg wrote on Threads on July 3 with a new video about smart glasses running Horizon OS version 67.

As announced by Meta later, Horizon OS 67 version can allow glasses wearers to multitask with up to six virtual windows. The user will "dock" three windows in a fixed position, which Meta calls a "hinge", while the remaining three windows can be moved and resized freely.

Unlike computer screens that are limited by size, the space on glass is larger. According to The Verge, allowing to open 6 windows at the same time allows working on multiple applications, while currently most virtual reality and augmented reality platforms display 2-3 windows, the rest are disabled. blur or hide.

Meta says the new feature is available on Quest Pro, Quest 2 and Quest 3 smart glasses models. However, the best experience is on Quest 3 because the glasses have a mixed reality mode similar to Apple's Vision Pro.

In addition to increasing the number of multitasking windows, Horizon OS 67 also adds a Theater View key to quickly maximize one window, while blurring other windows. This feature works with browsers, video players, and 2D apps.

Other changes in Horizon OS 67 are the ability to enter text faster, improving recognition performance when users roll their eyes. Meta said the version will be gradually rolled out to users instead of a mass upgrade.

Horizon OS, formerly known as Meta Quest Platform or Meta Quest OS before changing on April 22, is the platform for Meta's virtual reality and augmented reality devices. The operating system was first introduced on the Oculus Go model in 2018, which is based on Android instead of being built specifically. Partners participating in the AR/VR device ecosystem running Horizon OS currently include Asus, Lenovo and Microsoft.
