Google and Samsung have confirmed a big change for their flagship phones this year.
Good news for Android users, wireless charging technology similar to Apple's MagSafe will soon be available on Galaxy and Pixel phones. At CES 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced the accelerated deployment of the Qi2 wireless charging standard on Android devices.
Qi2 is a new wireless charging standard introduced by WPC in 2023, providing faster charging speeds and better energy efficiency than the current Qi standard. The special feature of Qi2 is the integration of magnets, which help fix the phone's position on the charging dock, similar to MagSafe on the iPhone.
Previously, Apple was the first company to support Qi2 on the iPhone 15. However, with the participation of Samsung and Google, Qi2 is expected to be widely popular on the Android ecosystem.
According to some sources, Samsung may launch a magnetic case specifically for the Galaxy S25 to support Qi2 charging, while ensuring that it does not affect the operation of the S Pen.
The appearance of MagSafe wireless charging on Android phones is considered a big step forward, providing users with a more convenient and efficient charging experience.
