Actor Will Smith, who is still married, caused controversy after hugging and kissing singer India Martinez at a music awards ceremony in Miami, Florida, on February 20.
Will Smith performed First Love with Spanish singer India Martinez on stage at the Premio Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards. Near the end of the performance, the two artists hugged and almost kissed each other. Behind-the-scenes photos showed India Martinez jumping up to hug Will Smith, leaving fans stunned.
The video was shared by the 39-year-old singer on Instagram with a caption quoting the lyrics of her and Will's song: "I want that first passion. I want those first hugs. I want those loud cries. I want that first love."
Many commented that Will Smith, 56,'s actions were inappropriate. "It was like Will forgot where he was and ran to hug her," one wrote. Another compared the Aladdin actor to "a dad singing karaoke with a drunk local woman." "Will overdid it," "The action was inappropriate even though it was supposed to be entertainment," the audience criticized.
However, some fans defended Will Smith, saying he deserved his freedom after his wife publicly admitted to cheating with young singer August Alsina in 2020. "Come on, she's embarrassed him so many times," one person defended him. "He's an actor and he's kissed a lot of co-stars. It's his job," another explained.
Will Smith is still married to actress Jada Pinkett Smith, despite living separately for many years. In 2023, Jada revealed that she and her husband had been separated since 2016, living in separate homes but still close as a family. The actress said that neither she nor Will wanted a divorce and were trying to find a way forward for their relationship.
