Diva Mariah Carey humorously 'tested' the lighting and dress on stage before receiving the Icon award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on the evening of March 17.
At the famous American music awards ceremony, Mariah Carey had a memorable moment when she stepped onto the stage of the Dolby Theater. Holding the Icon award trophy in her hand, the 55-year-old star looked around and asked: "Is the lighting okay because I don't like bad lighting."
Waiting for the production team to adjust the lighting, Mariah asked the audience if they liked her outfit and did a circle to the cheers.
Mariah Carey was praised for her flawless appearance when she attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards to receive the Icon award. The We Belong Together singer wore a body-hugging mermaid dress with sequins on the bodice and low-cut sleeves. She accentuated her look with a sparkling diamond necklace. Mariah wore her hair in loose curls and nude lip gloss, reminiscent of her glamorous style in the 2000s.
According to People, when entering the hall, Mariah had an assistant hold up her dress to keep the floor-sweeping train from being ruined.
In her acceptance speech, Mariah spoke about her passion for music and thanked those who helped her achieve success. "When I was a kid, I used to listen to my favorite artists on the radio and dream of one day having my voice broadcast," Mariah said. "For those who don't know what radio is, think of it as the non-WiFi version of online music. Even now, I get so excited when I hear one of my songs on the radio. It's always magical."
Mariah also paid tribute to her fans and family. At the end of her speech, she thanked her late mother, Patricia Carey, for giving her the gift of music.
