Apple has just announced a series of new iPad products, including the iPad Air equipped with the M3 chip and a low-cost iPad version.
Although the low-cost iPad does not have many upgrades compared to its predecessor, one important change in its configuration marks the end of an era for Apple: the 64GB storage capacity has officially been eliminated.
The new low-cost iPad will now start at 128GB, marking a shift in Apple's policy. Previously, the iPad 10 was the only model still available in 64GB configuration, while the iPhone SE 3 was also the last Apple phone to offer this outdated storage option. Currently, the newly launched iPhone 16e and iPad 11 both start at 128GB, making the iPhone SE 3 and iPad 10 obsolete and no longer available at Apple's official store.
The change doesn't stop at the iPad. Since October, all Mac models sold by Apple have been equipped with at least 16GB of RAM, replacing the previous minimum of 8GB. This shows that Apple is working to upgrade its specifications to keep up with the increasing demands of the digital age.
Meanwhile, Android devices have led the way with impressive specs, including 16GB of RAM becoming standard on many phones. While Apple has yet to offer 16GB of RAM on the iPhone, the company may upgrade the RAM on the iPhone 17 Pro later this year to 12GB.
With the 64GB storage option gone, users can feel relieved that they no longer have to worry about running out of space on their new devices.
