Dr Saniyya Mahmood encourages women to eat more foods rich in vitamin C, consume drinks that help the body produce collagen more effectively, thereby slowing down the aging process.
Saniyya Mahmood is a PhD, a dermatologist, currently working at the NHS (National Health Service UK). The expert with nearly 10 years of experience is also the Medical Director of Aesthetica Medical Clinic in the UK. In a conversation with GB News, Dr Saniyya said that women can absolutely look younger than their age thanks to persistent daily skin care through cosmetics and diet, without having to rely on expensive injections or skin rejuvenation treatments.
The first thing Dr Saniyya mentioned was applying sunscreen. "Sunscreen is the most important skin care product for long-term skin health. It is essential in preventing signs of aging such as wrinkles, crow's feet, dark spots, and pigmentation. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (at least SPF 50) every day, summer or winter. Not only does it prevent premature aging, it also protects your skin from harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer," the expert stressed the importance of protecting your skin from UV damage.
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
"Vitamin C plays a major role in collagen production, so eating fruits and vegetables will help your body increase collagen levels. I recommend eating citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit. Tomatoes, red and green bell peppers, and dark green vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts are also good for boosting collagen," the doctor said.
Drink collagen
The British dermatologist did not mention artificial collagen but encouraged adding natural collagen-rich drinks to the daily diet to strengthen the collagen and elastin structure of the skin as well as limit the loss of this substance. "One of my favorite collagen boosters is bone broth. Beef, chicken or fish bone broth can be drunk directly or used in soups," the doctor revealed her favorite natural collagen.
In addition to bone broth, the expert suggests drinking green tea, hibiscus/red artichoke tea to help supplement many antioxidants and vitamin C, which are beneficial for collagen production. "Red artichoke tea is rich in vitamin C, which plays a huge role in collagen formation. This can be a great and affordable addition to your daily collagen-boosting routine," says Saniyya.
