Amazon has officially labeled Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 7 as one of its “frequently returned” items.
According to Windows Central, customers seem to be unhappy with this Microsoft product, despite no bugs or performance issues being reported. The main reason for this situation may be related to consumer psychology.
Specifically, although Amazon did not provide specific information about the reason for the labeling, it may be related to the Snapdragon X Elite platform built into the machine. The Surface Laptop 7 is equipped with a Snapdragon X Elite chip (12 cores) with quite good performance, but does not support many important applications for some consumer segments. This makes it unable to compete with other products, such as Intel's Lunar Lake CPU line.
The increasing return rate shows that consumers are facing certain problems. Moreover, Qualcomm's products are currently priced high, making other options more attractive. For example, ARM-powered MacBooks not only offer better battery life but also provide a superior operating system experience compared to Qualcomm laptops.
Intel's co-CEO has reported on the return rate of Qualcomm laptops, indicating that consumer sentiment is not positive for this product. The reflection in the Surface Laptop 7 listing on Amazon further proves this. While the product has an overall rating of 4.2 with over 364 reviews, the “frequently returned” label is still a red flag.
For consumers looking for a laptop with a budget of under $1,500, the Snapdragon X Elite platform may not be the top choice. Qualcomm needs to improve this situation by appealing to consumers at the lower end or by offering better performance and value in upcoming products.
