Kanye West stormed out of an interview on May 6 after host Piers Morgan said the rapper's X account had a low number of followers.
Kanye and his friend, YouTuber Sneako, had an online interview with famous British journalist Piers Morgan on Monday. Piers led the conversation by talking about Kanye West's influence on social media and how the rapper's public image was being tarnished by his inflammatory statements. However, the journalist mistakenly said Kanye had 32 million followers on X when the actual number was 33.3 million.
Kanye angrily replied that he should not belittle him with a lower number. While Piers Morgan looked confused, West took off his headphones and stomped away from the camera. "We'll be back when you can count correctly," Kanye said and walked away.
Sneako was left alone in front of the camera to continue the interview. However, a moment later, Sneako also left when Piers commented, "Kanye is a weak coward".
Piers Morgan talked about the failed interview with Kanye on X: "I interviewed Kanye West today. As expected, the conversation didn't last long, and it didn't go well." However, Piers did not regret inviting West because he wanted to ask the rapper about his controversial statements on social media in recent times, including posts praising Hitler and anti-Semitism.
Morgan explained: "He deliberately broke every rule of X, but he did it with impunity and was allowed to do so, while millions of other accounts were suspended for much lesser acts."
The British journalist, known for his candid interviewing style, described Kanye West as "a big kid".
A representative for Kanye West has not responded to the incident. Kanye is currently on the Spanish island of Majorca with his wife, architect Bianca Censori.
This is not the first time Piers Morgan and Kanye West have "clashed". In 2022, they had a tense interview on the show Piers Morgan Uncensored. Piers Morgan convinced Kanye to apologize for racist remarks after the rapper said he "wanted to exterminate Jews". Initially, Kanye said "no" and explained: "I fought fire with fire. I'm not here to be doused with water". However, the American rapper later said, "I apologize to those I have hurt".
