Diogo Jota and Andre Silva died early on the morning of July 3 in northwestern Spain while driving to England. The brothers' Lamborghini is believed to have burst a tyre, lost control and flipped several times before bursting into flames at 00:30. According to Spanish police, the Liverpool striker and his brother died at the scene.
Diogo Jota had previously undergone surgery for a pneumothorax and was advised by doctors not to fly because of the health effects. The brothers chose to travel by road and ferry to England. Just 10 days earlier, Diogo Jota had married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso on June 22 in Portugal. He leaves behind his new wife and three young children.
